29th Sept- Grids

Time for a new challenge! Today we challenge you to create a grid layout.

Anastasia
The selection of the photos this time was easy, as I wanted to make a multi-photo layout with the results of my nephew discovering the magic of markers for the first time: he was more colourful than the paper itself!
I used my sewing machine to define the grid and to add some interest around the layout.

Anna
I think grid layouts are great for using lots of photos so I used photos from a lovely day out!

Daphne
Grids are a perfect way to do a layout in (nearly) no time!
I cropped down a 4x6 photo to 3x4 and added three journaling cards the same size. The background was done by going wild with my water colours; a little bit of stitching around the heart, some glitter glue, arrows, colour sprinkles and finished was the page!
Hilde
The engineer in me loves anything linear and straight, so this challenge is just up my alley!
Title: Trout for breakfast
Journaling: While it was M who cought all the trouts it was S and grandpa who had to prepare the fish.
I kept my photos black & white not to disturb the color combo. Splashes of red add extra interest.
I used 3D foam behind one of the photos to create Depth in the layout. A few of the squares were glued only in the middle, so the paper edges would rise a bit, just to loosen up the straight design

Katherine

I added a few grid sections to my page using 1" squares cut from lots of different papers, I then stitched through the centre of them and added little embellishments.

Please link up your grid layouts to the side bar, we would live to see them! As we have had 3 challenges Sundays in September you will have two weeks extra to do Septembers challenges!

Join us in 2 weeks time for the next challenge with the new and improved design team!

Introducing...

....our 3 new design team members!! I'm really pleased to add these talented artists that came from my first design team call since taking over here at The Studio! I know they will be great additions to the team. I picked them as each one adds something extra to the existing DT so they will make the team even better! Here you will meet them and their winning 'About Me' layouts!
Please welcome...

Carolina Orellana
"Hi everyone! My name is Carolina Orellana but everyone call me Cari. I'm from the very far away country Chile. I'm into scrapbooking since 2010 which is something I love because it gave me the opportunity to express my feelings and it's a beautiful way to save my memories. The main characters in my scrapbooks are my cat Wawito -little baby- and my boyfriend Ricardo. I describe my style as eclectic and modern, I love layering and stamp. Besides scrapbooking I like crocheting and sewing so you can imagine how many craft supplies I have! I'm so excited to be part of the studio now" and can't wait to start!

Jinny Newlin
My family and I live in a small suburb of Kansas City, Kansas, just over an hour and a half north of where I grew up.  I am a former, kindergarten teacher turned adoring wife to BJ and stay-at-home, homeschool mom to a smart, spunky, ten-year-old Ezekiel and vocal, tenacious, four-year-old Adina, as well as another cutie on the way.  When I’m not taking care of or playing with my family, you can find me cooking, baking, gardening, camping, sewing, taking pictures, blogging at Soaring, and of course, paper crafting.  My love for the latter started, over twelve years ago, at a Stampin’ Up workshop; but I have been creating with any and every form of crafting media, that I could get my hands on, since I was old enough to hold a crayon.  I’ve been honored to have had a number of published works of art, as well as to get to design for some of my most favorite manufacturers and challenge blogs, and am just thrilled to be joining the talented likes of The Studio Design Team!  I hope that I can inspire you all to get creating.

Stephanie Ho
My name is Stephanie and I'm a city girl who is blessed to live just blocks from the ocean in beautiful Vancouver, Canada. I am married to my best friend, a Lego-loving engineer, and we have the best time journeying through life together! I've been scrapbooking for 10+ years and I fall more in love with this hobby every time I pull out my supplies to create a new layout. I believe scrapbooking is more than just paper & stickers; it's really story-telling at its finest. I love sharing this passion with others, and am excited to be part of the inspiring Studio Challenges! In addition to being an avid scrapbooker, I am also a wannabe chef, a book hoarder, an aspiring world traveler, a Starbucks drinker, a cupcake connoisseur, a nail polish collector and a very competitive board game player.
I blog over at Skyline Paperie - http://skylinepaperie.blogspot.co.uk/

You will get to see these talented ladies creating from October! We can't wait to see what they create!

15th Sept - Sketch

Time for another lovely sketch from Valerie, this time she took inspiration from Anastasia's glitter layout.

Here are some inspiring ways to use the sketch from the design team:

Anastasia
It's the first time I had to make a second layout based on the same sketch. At first I was concerned, wasn't sure how I would make it different. Since the previous layout had limited colours, I decided to go with a multicolour layout.
...and on a sleepless night, I started doodling with white gel pen around all the details:

Daphne
A single photo in the middle of the layout - no problem! This time I arranged the layers first around the picture and then glued it all down. I also used some structure paste with a mask which peaks out from underneath the sticker and paper layers - can you spot them?
Hilde
What a fun sketch to play with  - I got so many ideas when I saw it and will keep it for playing at a later time, too :-)
Have you ever seen a sign like this? I admit I hadn't before I found it at a Norwegian (water transport) lock! I just needed a shoot of it!
A few details from the layout:

Katherine

I chose the birthday cake I made for my youngest for the sketch challenge, and made some balloons for one of the embellishment sections....and added a few more layers as I can't resist that!

Petra
So my mother got her self a dog... it is the cutest little puppy but for me it is a bit wierd because we never had a dog when I grew up... still I must admit I like it ♥ Dixi

Please link up your entries, we would love to see them!

Don't forget it's the last day to get your design team entries in, you have until midnight 12:00 GMT tonight to get them in so you better be quick!

1st Sept - Wings

Today's challenge is something a bit different! We have a word for you to be inspired by ......
The word is Wings, you can interpret it in whichever way you like!

Here's what the design team came up with:

Anastasia
I did love this challenge as I knew right from the start what the theme would be about - airplanes! The photo is from my last trip to Stockholm - we were already in Sweden when I took the photo:
I made my own banner with die cuts inspired by Jen Kinkade:
And I since I love typewriters but I don't have one, I printed the journaling using typewriter font on vellum and sewed on a tag:

Anna
I went with the most beautiful wings there is, a butterfly! I love this photo I took of this Peacock butterfly in our garden. The title is also a name of a bird, see what I did there?!

Daphne
If I had wings I would fly - but I don't have any :( So what else would I try to fly?! Exactly - I would try Kite Surfing! Preferably at a Cornish Beach while the sun sets... A girl can dream, right?!
I used a lot of arrows and the chevron pattern to create this layout "Up!" along with some stamped patterns as well. The bold patterns of the colourful papers by My Mind's Eye 'Cut & Paste' Adorbs are the perfect fit to my photo with the rather muted colours!

Hilde
My youngest son has a crush on anything that flies, is very creative, and even build his own RC planes. They just don't work as good as he hopes for some times :-)

Katherine

Well it doesn't quite have wings, but it does soar alongside all those other winged things, so I chose kites.  Kite flying is something that my kids never seem to tire of.

Petra
I have often wondered how it would feel to have wings and fly. Maybe going on a carousell like this is as close as you get? Now I have to admit I wasn't brave enough to try it but my 9 year old son did... and he loved it.

Please link your entries up to the side bar.

Also don't forget you have one more week left to enter our design team call (see post below) we would love to see your entries so get them in quick!

Happy scrapping!
