Safmat and Images :)

Following on from this Sunday's Challenge Kelly has requested some more information on my LO so I thought I'd share it with you all here. I used safmat to print out the google title and the falling money. Safmat is a printable sticky back plastic that's so thin you can hardly see it when it's stuck down on a LO. It's great for creating titles and for adding accents to LOs and you can even print photos on to it. I bought mine from Indigo Mill where you can buy it by the sheet or in a pack. I've used it on this LO to add a top ten list of things about me and here the title is printed on to safmat and stuck on to the page for my 'There is no measure of my love for you' and to print the numbers in a circle for my countdown clock. On this LO I printed all of my journalling in various funky fonts onto safmat. Finally, in this one I printed off the flowers and once I'd stuck them on to the page, I used knotted embroidery thread to create flowers at the top, leaving safmat stems and leaves on show, and I even used it to print a photo of my son so that he could drive his Birthday cake car here :) It's certainly versatile!

In terms of finding images, I always use google images. Sometimes it means trawling through a lot of photos before I find exactly what I'm looking for, or a little bit of manipulation of images to make them work for me but generally you can find anything you want on there with enough combinations of searches. For example, for one of the up coming World Cup Challenges I wanted a football photo so I searched 'Football' and couldn't find what I wanted and then did 'Soccer Ball' and hey presto! Once I've found sites via google that I find useful I bookmark them for future use. For example, during the election I found the newspaper websites (The Guardian and The Independent especially) had good photo galleries so now I know where to go next time I want to do a news based LO.

There are probably copyright laws and I should be telling you every site I got every photo from when I do that for a LO.

I'm going to be taking over telling you about the wonderful Sunday challenges that Amanda has set for us for a little while, and it's my pleasure to start this off with this week's challenge.

I don't really idolize anyone famous so this layout is about my great grandparents. I was never lucky enough to meet them they died many years before I was born but I always hear so many happy memories about them and their names are always mentioned.

This layout I've made as one of the 20 (yes 20!) for my mothers life album. It was part of her mother's day gift this year this May. (In Brazil Mother's Day is always 2nd Sunday of May). So here is my grandpa and I'd love to be able to meet him...he passed away when my mom was only 18 yo, so she was very touched by this layout. He worked at commercial navy and probably that's where my mom and all of us got the love for travelling. :) Here's some detail

This is why I like challenges. I've been wanting to scan and scrap these old photos for over a year now, but I've been so into scrapping my 'now' photos and just never had the urge to scrap these, until now. We moved to Germany when I was 13 and we were very close to my Great Grandma. I find it amazing seeing these photos of her parents along with my Great Grandfather's parents.

I can't imagine a world without books - ever since I could I've been an avid reader and when as a teen I discovered the works of Daphne Du Maurier I was instantly captivated. She became one of my favourite authors, her novels always managed to transport me into a magical, exciting, dramatic world. To this day one of my all time favourite books is one of hers - The House on the Strand. As an adult I read the Margaret Forster biography about Du Maurier and when this challenge was issued, this page kinda made itself!

Rebekah My inital thoughts were to scrap the author Richard Preston who I've never met, but who had a big affect on the direction that my life took. But then I decided to scrap the election. Here are two men who together are going to influence our lives for the next few years (probably). I was totally obsessed by the election this time aound. I enjoyed the politics, the debacle that is Sky News and the 'what's going to happen? nobody knows!' feel of it all. For the LO itself I printed out some photos of key moments and some embelishment images, made a paper rosette, used a felt tip pen to colour white lace because I didn't have time to go to the stash shop, used safmat to record the 'google' title from the day of the election and the coins falling to the bottom of the page and cut out empty alphas for the title. I also inked the edges with the ink pad face down on the paper and included some of the quotes I'll remember from the election.

Tessa

When I was a senior in high school I bought a book called "Creative Lettering" by Becky Higgins. I fell in love with scrapbooking that very day. Becky has been a huge inspiration to me and was basically my teacher in the beginning. I continue to be inspired by her today. I always say, "When I grow up, I want to be Becky Higgins." I think if I were to ever meet her I would try to say thank you, but probably not be able to form a sentence. I would likely cry, too. Wow, I'd be a mess, but it would be a dream come true :).

World Cup Teaser

Even those who don't like football (or soccer) will probably be aware that the World Cup starts in South Africa on 11th June and will continue right through until 11th July. That's 64 mathches and a minimum of 5860 minutes of football. Think of all that extra scrapping time you'll have whilst the other half sits glued to the TV or goes down the pub with his mates!
